The development of genome editing tools, particularly those based on the CRISPR-Cas systems, is accelerating biological research and making it possible to conduct thorough genetic investigations in virtually any organism and cell type. Animal and stem cell-derived in vitro models of new model systems for studying the complexity of the nervous system has been made possible by these tools. Using CRISPR-Cas techniques, precise and effective gene editing can advance both fundamental and translational neuroscience research.
